City a finalist for Bloomberg award

In a long-winded two-page press release issued this morning, Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero says the city has been selected as a finalist for the Bloomberg Philanthropies' Mayors Challenge, which is a competition created to inspire cities to generate innovative ideas that solve major challenges and improve city life – and that ultimately can be shared with cities across the nation.

Whew. Whatever. But, hey, when you pay that city communication's department a gazillion dollars (which is still half a gazillion less than what the school system's spin team earns) to write these releases, then they better make those suckers long.

Anyhoo, Knoxville was one of 20 finalists picked due to its “innovative idea to create an urban food corridor.” The idea, according to the release, was selected after input from residents and a committee to create a unique business model that encompasses the entire urban food cycle by connecting land, farming jobs, processing facilities, food transit, sale and composting.

OK, I got no idea what's going on here. Sounds like some hippie stuff. Click right smack here for the release.
