Election commission changes Farragut precincts after long voting waits

After long lines at various Farragut polling places during the primaries in March, the Knox County Election Commission agreed to divide two precincts in half.

The commission divided Precincts 69S and 70 in half, to reduce wait times and parking problems.

Precinct 69S will now vote at Northshore Elementary, while the newly created 69E will vote at Bluegrass Elementary.

Voters in Precinct 70W will vote at Ball Camp Elementary, while voters in 70E will cast their ballots at Amherst Elementary.

“It’s going to be a vast improvement,” said Cliff Rodgers, the election commissioner. “I told everyone then (in March) we were going to look into moving things around to ease lines and reduce parking issues for the November elections.”

Voters will not get a new ID card, but if they are affected, they will get a post card in the mail notifying them of their precinct number and polling location. Rodgers said about 35,000 people will be affected.

In addition to the precincts changing, some voters have new polling locations.
